fter 25 years in the bakery business in Moricone, Rome Italy, Emilio and Marina Milani decided to move to the United States to share their culinary Italian culture with the American people.  In 1993, the Milani family arrived to Connecticut where they opened a gourmet coffee shop, Coffee Island Cafe, offering sandwiches, panini and a variety of homemade baked goods.  In 2003 they moved to North Haven and opened Milani’s Italian Bakery in the center of Northford.  Emilio comes from a long line of bakers in Italy.  He learned everything that he knows from his father Tullio Milani, who has been in the bakery business since the 1950’s.  “You have to treat pastry making as an art form. You have to have passion in order to turn something good, into something unforgettable.”
